Welcome to Global Thoroughbred
My name is Thomasina Orr and I am a 22 year old student in my 4th year at the University of Guelph, working towards completing my bachelors degree in Bio Resource Equine Management. This blog is an extension of of my Agriculture Communications course in which we are exploring the ways social media and agriculture can work together.
The idea behind Global Thoroughbred is to explore issues and innovations within horse racing around the world. Through my experiencing travelling, working within and observing racing in different countries thus far, I have been inspired to broaden my knowledge of thoroughbred racing.

I began working with thoroughbreds at the age of 13 on a thoroughbred breeding farm in my home town of St.Thomas, Ontario. The experiences and opportunities I've had throughout my employment made me realize that horse racing was certainly something I wanted to be a part of. I hope to do more travelling and working abroad after I graduate, learn more and hopefully build a career. In the meantime, Global Thoroughbred will be an interesting project and an excellent way to do some international learning from the classroom.
Enjoy!
